The Network Operations Center (NOC) of the Aristotle University of Thesaloniki (AUTh) was formed in October 1995, under the supervision of the AUTh Data Network Committee. Nowadays, NOC is the University unit that proposes, implements and monitors the network policy, at a technical level. The AUTh Network Policy is decided by Communication Networks & Informatics Steering Committee, which also supervise the implementation of the network policy.

NOC is responsible to provide network services to AUTh network users, based on the AUTh Network Policy and is coordinated by the AUTh Network Manager.

NOC offers and constantly improves the following activities/services, in order to provide high quality network services to the AUTh Academic community:

  • Installation of new segments of cable system and new active network elements
  • Maintenance and upgrade of already installed infrastructures
  • Development of applications and pilot services
  • Management of the network and network services  
  • Technical support for the users and creation of service tutorials
  • Training for the members of the academic community 

Users support is provided either via e-mail, phone call and manuals in printed or electronic form.

NOC’s staff  consists of:

  • Network engineers, network specialists full-time staff
  • Undergraduate students who work as part-time network technicians
  • Undergraduate student trainees

NOC is funded by:

  • European Commission Projects in which NOC participates as a partner
  • Projects of the Hellenic Academic community that offer services to third-party institutions
  • The AUTh Research Committee and the AUTh regular budget
