Management of e-mail from the web (webmail)

1. Introduction
In this manual there are instructions for the management of your e-mail using the web in order to sent and receive e-mail messages from the Network Operations Center (NOC). If you do not have account you can see instruction to get one and also information about the duration in the addresses:
http://noc.auth.gr/services/personal/dial-up & http://noc.auth.gr./services/personal/accounts.
The given instructions are for the webmail service (webmail.auth.gr). If you want to manage your mail with another environment, choose the appropriate manual from here.
From the moment you have user account, all you need to get connected to your inbox are:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.5 or newer (to check this help->about Internet Explorer). NOC cannot supply this software as well as the installation instruction because it is offered from the official site of the company. For more information visit the pages http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/.
- The brochure "User Account" you took from NOC.
2. Instructions
After you open the browser, you must visit the address https://webmail.auth.gr/ (in order to use secure connection first you must trust the AUTH Certification Authority). The following page will appear:
To get connected to your mailbox you must enter in the field Email the "e-mail address" as it appears in the brochure "User Account" and in the field Password the "Password" (if you did not changed it it is the same as it appears in the brochure "User Account". In the field Language choose the default one that will be used in the webmail usage. For the scopes of this manual Greek language is chosen.
When you have entered your account information you must choose Enter. The following page will appear:
This page is separated in three basic parts (frames). The top frame has the basic menu of choices for the e-mail management, whereas below system information appear to you and on the bottom part the messages you got appear.
The first choice of the list (that appears when you get connected to your mailbox) is the INBOX and displays the header list of your e-mails that sent to your address.
To edit an incoming message just choose from the "From" or "Subject" of the header. The message will be displayed in the following form:
On the top part of the message the editing choises appear. Next is the arrangement of the header and the message body. If the message is big you can move with the use of the right vertical bar.
To answer to the sender just choose Reply or Reply to all in the case that you want to reply to other possible recipients.
To delete a message after you have chosen you must press delete. Afterwards, either the deleted message appears in the inbox with strikethrough fonts either it is moved to the Trash if you have activated the option "When deleted, move to Trash instead of marking as deleted" from the menu Options-->Message Configuration-->Message Delete and Transfer.
This action deletes "temporary" the message and you can cancel it by choosing the message and press Undelete in the first case or by choosing the message from the Trash folder and press Move to any folder you desire. The message delete is confirmed either by choosing Purge Deleted either if you have activated the choice "When deleting messages, move them to your Trash folder instead of marking them as deleted?" just by pressing Purge Deleted from the basic menu, then the folder is emptied from the deleted.
To create a new message choose New Message from the basic menu. The following window will appear:
In the field To: enter the recipient's e-mail address. In the field Cc: enter the e-mail addresses of additional recipients. In the field BCc: enter if you desire additional recipients that you do not want to appear in the normal recipients of the message. In the field Subject: type a subject and type your text message. To check if your message is spelling correct choose the language you prefer. To attach a file press Browse..., search for and choose the file you desire and press Attach. To sent your message you must press Sent Message.
3. Configuration
The webmail gives the capability to define some personal options for your messages. To deine them choose Options from the basic menu and next Personal Information:

With this option you can:
- compose a short text that will be attached at the and of every message as a signature. This text must be typed in the field Your signature.
- define the language you desire your e-mail, choosing from the Choose the desired language.
To confirm your configuration you must choose Save options.
4. Folders Management
The webmail gives the capability to organize your messages in different folders. To do this choose Folders from the basic menu:
In the field Choose Action: you can create or Rename or Delete an existed folder.
You can see the contents of the folders that created using webmail by choosing from the list appear in the following picture:

The incoming messages can be stored in any desired folder. Initially you have to choose the message and then choose the folder that you want to store it and finally choose if you want Move or Copy:

In addition, you can define which of your folders you want to be accessible from webmail or not. This is defined by pressing on Display no registered folders of the Folders option:

The folders (in grey highlight) existing in your mailbox appear but you did not choose to "see" them from webmail. You can choose the state of your folder you desire to change iots state and then by pressing Choose option we select Use of Folder or Non-Use of Folder.
5. Address Book
The webmail gives the capability to find easily e-mail addresses using the option Address Book from the basic menu (or from the new message window):
The NOC of AUTH gives the capability to the users to find e-mail addresses of other users of AUTH using the directory services. To use this service just search in the electronic lists with names of the University "AUTH" or/and in "Private AddressBook". The list with the usernames of AUTH will appear containing part of the name you entered. In there you can search for what you are interested.
